Mozambique faces high rates of youth unemployment, estimated at around 30%. To address this challenge, the employment creation sector of Italian Cooperation has focused on promoting inclusive and quality training, including university cooperation and the strengthening of technical and vocational education and training, an area that has historically represented one of the main sectors of intervention of Italian Cooperation in the country.
With a view to promoting decent work, with particular attention to young people living in fragile contexts, AICS continues to operate in the fields of Higher Education and Technical and Vocational Training. At the same time, it promotes applied scientific research and technological innovation, with a specific focus on information and communication technologies (ICT), considered strategic tools for sustainable growth based on human capital and socio-economic development.
The sector also supports the country’s digitalisation efforts by supporting start-ups through business incubators, such as the one at Eduardo Mondlane University, and by promoting innovation-focused initiatives, including hackathon programmes aimed at fostering youth entrepreneurship and the development of innovative technological solutions.
